Last Update a year ago

Proper Equipment Use: Utilize appropriate equipment like dollies, hand trucks, and lifting straps to handle and transport large packages.

Team Lifting: For very heavy items, practice team lifting. Coordinate with another DA to lift and move the package safely.

Ergonomic Lifting Techniques: Adhere to ergonomic lifting principles — bend at the knees, keep the back straight, and use leg muscles to lift, not the back.

Pre-Delivery Assessment: Before delivery, assess the delivery area for potential obstacles or hazards, such as narrow pathways, uneven surfaces, or stairs.

Secure Transportation: Ensure that large packages are securely stowed in the delivery vehicle to prevent shifting and potential damage during transit.

Customer Communication: Inform customers about delivery progress and any special requirements for handling large packages, especially when customer assistance might be needed.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Wear appropriate PPE, including gloves, safety shoes, and high-visibility vests, to reduce the risk of injury.

Vehicle Parking: Park the delivery vehicle in a safe and secure area that allows easy access to the delivery site and minimizes the carrying distance.

Weather and Environmental Considerations: Be extra cautious in adverse weather conditions like rain, snow, or extreme temperatures, which can affect handling and increase the risk of accidents.

Regular Breaks and Hydration: Take regular breaks during the delivery process, especially when handling heavy items, and stay hydrated.

Incident Reporting: Immediately report any accidents, injuries, or near-misses to the appropriate channel as outlined in the DSP Safety Incident Reporting Guide.

Continuous Training: Regularly participate in training sessions and refreshers on safe handling techniques and equipment use.
