To ensure the safety of our drivers, customers, and the general public by establishing a set of safe driving practices and guidelines for all delivery drivers.

1. Pre-Trip Inspection
- Drivers must perform a thorough pre-trip inspection before starting their route.
- Check tires for proper inflation and tread wear.
- Inspect brakes and lights (headlights, brake lights, turn signals).
- Ensure mirrors are clean and properly adjusted.
- Verify all fluids (oil, coolant, brake fluid) are at proper levels.
- Confirm load is secure and evenly distributed.
- Be aware of the vehicle's clearance height (14 feet) and plan routes accordingly.
2. Safe Driving Practices
- Always wear a seatbelt.
- Adhere to posted speed limits and drive according to road conditions.
- Maintain a safe following distance from the vehicle in front.
- Use turn signals well in advance of turning or changing lanes.
- Avoid distractions (e.g., cell phone use, eating, or adjusting the radio).
- Keep both hands on the steering wheel.
- Be cautious at intersections; look both ways before proceeding.
- Use headlights in low visibility conditions (rain, fog, dusk, dawn).
3. Defensive Driving
- Be aware of blind spots and check them regularly.
- Anticipate the actions of other drivers.
- Stay focused and avoid driving when fatigued.
- Yield to pedestrians and be extra cautious in residential areas.
- Use caution when backing up; use mirrors and, if possible, a spotter.
- Watch for and obey all traffic signs and signals.
- Always be mindful of clearance heights and avoid routes with low bridges or overpasses less than 14 feet.
4. Parking and Unloading
- Park in designated delivery zones or legal parking spots.
- Use hazard lights when stopped for deliveries.
- Avoid blocking driveways, fire hydrants, and sidewalks.
- Secure the vehicle when unattended (lock doors and remove keys).
- Be cautious of surroundings when opening doors and unloading packages.
5. Weather-Related Safety
- Reduce speed in adverse weather conditions (rain, snow, ice).
- Increase following distance on wet or slippery roads.
- Keep windshield wipers and defrosters in good working condition.
- Use extra caution on bridges and overpasses, which may freeze first.
- Carry emergency supplies (blanket, water, non-perishable food, flashlight).
6. Health and Wellness
- Stay hydrated and take regular breaks to avoid fatigue.
- Follow ergonomic practices to avoid injury when lifting and carrying packages.
- Report any health concerns or injuries to the supervisor immediately.
- Get adequate rest before starting a shift.
7. Emergency Preparedness
- Know the location and operation of safety equipment (fire extinguisher, first aid kit).
- Have a plan for handling breakdowns and accidents.
- Keep a list of emergency contacts and procedures.
- Stay calm and follow company protocols in case of an emergency.
All drivers are expected to adhere to this policy at all times. Non-compliance may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
