Last Update vor einem Jahr

The closure phase is triggered when lightning is detected within a predetermined radius of the site, or upon recommendation by local weather advisories. A mandatory site closure is enforced, with all outdoor activities halted and personnel directed to seek shelter in designated safe areas. These areas are carefully selected to offer maximum protection against lightning, following guidelines that advise avoidance of open spaces, metal structures, and elevated areas.

Resumption of operations is contingent upon the clearance of severe weather, as confirmed by weather services, coupled with a thorough safety inspection of the site to ascertain the absence of any resulting hazards. Only after ensuring the site's safety and integrity can operations recommence, with clearance communicated by the site manager.

Lightning Strike Risk Assessment

  • Continuous monitoring of weather conditions is the responsibility of site managers with the support of designated safety officers.
  • Use of weather tracking and alert systems, such as mobile apps or online weather services, to monitor for lightning and severe weather advisories in the area.

Procedure for Site Closure and Evacuation:

a. Alert Phase

Upon receiving an alert of an approaching storm with lightning, site managers will:

  • Announce an alert phase over the PA system, notifying DAs and personnel of potential severe weather.
  • Instruct all DAs to complete immediate tasks and prepare for potential site closure and evacuation.
  • Ensure all safety equipment, including high-visibility safety vests and identification badges, are worn by DAs and visitors as outlined in the Delivery Station Safety section.

b. Closure Phase

  • If lightning is detected within a predetermined radius (e.g., 10 miles) of the site, or local weather advisories recommend taking shelter:
  • Issue a site closure order over the PA system.
  • DAs and personnel must immediately cease outdoor activities and seek shelter in designated safe areas within buildings that offer protection from lightning, avoiding open garages, metal structures, and high ground.

c. Evacuation and Shelter

  • Follow evacuation procedures as detailed in the Delivery Station Process, guiding DAs and personnel to safety in an orderly manner.
  • Safe areas include interior rooms away from windows, doors, and electrical equipment.
  • Maintain a roll call to ensure all personnel are accounted for.

Non-compliance with this policy by any DA or personnel will result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination, in accordance with company policies and relevant labor laws.
